International Office | University Jena
International Office | University of Jena
The internationalization of Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU) is primarily aimed at building networks between stakeholders both within and outside the university. The shared interest is focused on further strengthening and raising the profile of internationality, integration, and interculturalism. For this reason, the International Office also has an office in the International Center (IC), from which various services and programs for international students and projects are coordinated.
During the whole year, the International Office offers a diverse program of events at the IC that is of equal interest to both FSU students and staff. The offers range from intercultural training sessions, information sessions for those interested in studying abroad, and welcome days for students from all over the world to workshops on international teaching and networking events.
Welcome Buddy Program & Academic Mentoring for International Students
The International Office’s Welcome Buddy programme helps international students find their way around the university and the city. It connects new students with experienced volunteer Welcome Buddies who have been studying at the University of Jena for some time. The Buddies assist new students with all visits to offices and agencies related to enrolment, making it easier for them to get started with their studies.
The International Office’s academic mentoring program offers international students who wish to earn a degree in an undergraduate program at Friedrich Schiller University Jena academic guidance and support. Depending on need and availability, they are mentored by both a student mentor and an academic mentor.

WelcomeCafé & InBetween
The WelcomeCafé always takes place during the Welcome Days at the start of the semester at Haus auf der Mauer. It is aimed at new (international) students and is organised by international students. There, you can meet other new students and get tips on studying and living in Jena. Our workshops inform you about finding accommodation, visa applications, organising your studies and much more. The WelcomeCafé team also helps with questions regarding enrolment.
The InBetween is an open meeting place – run by students for students. It offers a space for studying, working, socialising and relaxing between university classes. With coffee and snacks, you can get to know other students and spend time together. The InBetween takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 pm to 6 pm at Haus auf der Mauer.
